Playbooks
Nutanix introduced Playbooks as a way to automate into application and cloud infrastructure. Users set and select triggers in their infrastructure and pick a cadence of actions to follow those triggers.
Role
Lead visual designer in charge of collaborating with Ux, Engineering and PM.
Challenges
- As a team we had to define an interaction pattern that would make the feature intuitive and easy to use for our users for their automation process.
- Since this was a new feature and the first release had limited functionality. We have to think of a framework for growth and scalability, both in features and actions.
- Create a set of Icons to define sets of actions and categories
- Create a sequenced navigation to add more categories, branches where users could go and edit every step.
Results
- We decided to have a side linear sequence that serve both as navigation between triggers and actions but also was easy to add and modify these elements.
- We divided the screen in 2 main areas helped to give clear hierarchy between actions and descriptions.
- We also did a clear separation between edit mode, read mode to make it easier for the user.
- To avoid designing a full set of icons and have dependency for every new action. We decided to look at our existing set, pick the ones that were specific to our actions and create two buckets where the rest of the actions would fall.
